The Yogi Grind: Remembering the Café That Filled My Mornings
There are mornings when I still hear it, the sounds that make up a café,
The blender, the espresso machine, the low chatter of early risers easing into their day.
It has been years since I handed someone their drink, yet the rhythm of those mornings still lives somewhere in me.
What I Miss Most
I miss the faces.
The regular who always ordered before speaking, the student who studied in the corner, the family that shared their family time with us every Saturday.
They weren’t just customers they were part of a living, breathing community that gathered around caffeine, conversation, and yoga.
The café was never just about coffee or smoothies after all it did start and at it’s core was a yoga studio.
It was about presence.
People walked in from every kind of day, some heavy, some bright, and for a few minutes, they belonged to something easy and kind.
I didn’t realize how much I’d miss that part:
the small talk that meant everything, the brief smiles that said “thanks, I needed this.”
Life After the shop
When I stepped away from owning The Yogi Grind, I thought I was ready.
But the quiet that followed surprised me.
No rush of orders.
No friendly chaos.
Just silence and the memory of all that warmth.
I’ve tried to recreate it in different ways teaching yoga at other spaces going to other cafes around town and the state, but the truth is, the café had its own kind of magic.
A Taste That Brings It Back
Every now and then, when nostalgia hits hard, I make one of The Yogi Grind’s old favorites: the Berry Bomber Smoothie.
It’s my way of keeping a small part of that world alive.
The first sip takes me right back to the sound of the blender, to the smell of espresso and fruit, to the joy of seeing someone’s shoulders drop as they tasted something made with care.
It’s not the same, but it’s close enough to remind me of what I loved most:
the smiles, the laughter, the shared humanity that lived in every cup.
So, here’s a little piece of The Yogi Grind you can share too.
Berry Bomber Smoothie
Ingredients:
12 oz almond milk ( I preferred oat milk)
1 tbsp almond butter (turns out I'm allergic to almonds so I now use sunflower butter)
½ scoop Juce Powder (The Secret Ingredient)
1/2 cup scoop mixed berries (frozen helps with keep it nice and cold, can definitely use fresh berries too)
1 frozen banana
I've included an affiliate link to an Amazon store if you want to buy the secret ingredient.
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a blender.
Blend until smooth and creamy.
Pour, sip, and remember something or someone you loved.
